The objectives of the Registered Blind and Partially Sighted collection are to enable:

  • government departments to monitor the impact of social care policy on blind and partially sighted people, ensuring they have access to the right services and are not negatively impacted as a consequence of the introduction of policy
  • policy makers and commissioners understand the needs of local and national populations
  • service providers and charities effectively plan the service needs for registered blind and partially sighted people
  • CASSRs benchmark against peers.

The content is collected once every three years, as a table in the Short and Long Term Support (SALT) return and the annual burden is included in the burden figure for the SALT return.
